6 Tips to Start Your Life after Cancer

Millions of people are present out there who are cancer survivors. 3 out of every 5 families have had cancer at some stage of life. You just need to settle back into life after cancer, and in this process, you may find things are different. 

You can now have new priorities and new perspectives on life. Your body might have changed due to those long-term effects, and your body image might have changed.

2. Don't try to force yourself to be an exact version of who you are- we have to find many cancer patients are not able to get back to their old selves, but it's not necessary. Everything needs to be changed. 

If you find all those activities you used to perform are foreign then it’s better to try some new and spontaneous things. 

Try to find new passions; whether it be painting, writing, playing games, knitting, driving, etc., you must realize that now you are a new, stronger version of yourself. Try to do all those things that always piqued your interests. 

3. Perfect your elevator speech- you need to master your elevator speech, and by doing this, you might remove one of the most pressing concerns of survivors while returning to the normal world. 

Try to keep thinking- “I Just want to move forward” Take out a piece of paper and compose and practice a two-minute, one-minute explanation. 

This would be about what you want to say when someone asks you how you are doing and what treatment was like. If you don’t want to talk about the cancer experience- simply answer-don't. 

You can respectfully decline your interest in sharing that harsh part of your life. Don’t feel obligated to explain yourself. 

4. Talk, share, and let others empathize with you- don’t hesitate to open up with people whom you trust. If you don't want to talk with your family members and friends, and if you are not comfortable with it, you can consider joining a support group instead. 

By joining the group, you can talk to other survivors, and they can help you understand, and those who are further along in this journey can give friendly advice for coping with your emotions.

5. Acknowledge your fears and uncertainties- you can be over the moon about your cancer being cured. And at the same time, you might worry about the possibility of cancer returning. Whenever you feel anxious, then redirect your thoughts and your energy towards something positive. 

Try to be happy as you have survived cancer and that any of the painful symptoms you had are now a thing of the past. You can spend today following ways to reduce cancer remission by having a well-balanced diet and being more active.

6. Accept change- change is inevitable from your experience to your lifestyle. Your hair will also grow after chemotherapy, but it may not be thick as it used to be in earlier times. If you are stapled with alcohol, red meat, and processed food, you need to cut those and substitute yourself with those green vegetables, fruits, anti-cancer foods, and nutrient-dense foods. \

Accept those changes, adapt yourself, and then embrace this new chapter to help you achieve the happy and satisfactory life you seek. It's never easy at first, but it is well worth it. Give yourself time to adjust.
